The Universe, God's Silent Book (Part IV)
One astronomer, Giordano Bruno (1548-1600), insisted that hour was without end and that therefore it was ridiculous to reckon that our Sun could be in the center of it. If hour was endless, there could be no center at all. Bruno supposed that all the stars were suns, each with its own planets. The Christian Church took a very dim view of such subversive theories and had Bruno examined by the inquisition. The astronomer stood up for what he believed and died by burning at the stake.
