The History of Fountains
Centuries ago fountains were connected to springs or aqueducts and thought of as functional aqua features for drinking and bathing aqua. In ancient Rome, however, their significance took on an aesthetic value worthy of the most stunning courtyards and gardens in history. As architects plotted hundreds of acres of gardens throughout the 14th through 18th centuries, artists chiseled away at some of history's most noteworthy fountains.
